This page was created to help you pinpoint the mistakes commonly found on websites — starting with a working demonstration, followed by real examples pulled directly from actual attorney sites.
How to read the tags on this page
Every ratio below (like 4.5:1) measures how much text stands out from its background. The higher the number, the easier it is to read. The lowest possible ratio is 1:1 — text that blends in completely. The highest is 21:1 — black text on a white background. WCAG is the standard for accessible design. It sets three pass levels:
Large text (roughly 24px, or 19px bold) only needs to clear 3:1 for AA and 4.5:1 for AAA — bigger, bolder letters are easier to read even with less contrast.
TIP If a ratio falls short, the text may be hard to read for many people — especially in bright light or on small screens.
