Verified Palette

Every value below was directly recalculated using the WCAG relative-luminance formula on 2026-07-24 — not carried over from a prior "verified" label. Where the old figure was wrong, that's called out explicitly.

Ink #2c1810 Text / BG 16.24:1 on cream — AAA. Confirmed as the header/nav background — a distinct role from Dark Olive, which is the section-zone background. Recalculated (was listed 16.8; the difference is calculation precision, not a real change).
Ink Support #5c4a42 Text 8.05:1 on cream — AAA. Secondary/support copy only. Recalculated (was listed 7.4 — still AAA either way).
CONFIRMED Orange — Dark-BG Token #FA8A2E Accent (dark bg only) 7.02:1 on Ink — AAA. Confirmed as the permanent dark-background accent token — used alongside #8C4103 (light-bg token) as a deliberate two-token system, not a single universal replacement for the old orange. Only 2.31:1 on Cream — never use on light backgrounds.
CONFIRMED Orange — Light-BG Token #8C4103 Accent (light bg only) 7.04:1 on Cream — AAA. Confirmed as the permanent light-background accent token, paired with #FA8A2E for dark backgrounds. Only 2.31:1 on Ink — never use on dark backgrounds.
Orange Hover (dark bg) #FC9A3D Hover state 7.89:1 on Ink — AAA. Already the verified, live hover token in the homepage header build (nav CTA, reveal button). Old "Orange Hover #a84816" measured only 5.61:1 on cream / 2.89:1 on ink — both worse than this. Recommend retiring a84816.
Navy #1a2744 Background White at 14.81:1 — AAA. Alternate dark background, not currently used on Askadinya pages. Recalculated (was listed 15.4 — still AAA either way).
CONFIRMED Dark Olive #1a1a0f Background — section zones With cream text #FAF1E3: 15.65:1 AAA. Confirmed as the background for section zones (the "az-z" family) — a distinct role from Ink, which stays the header/nav background. Two backgrounds, two roles, not one replacing the other.
Ink — Drawer Variant #1e100a Background Darker than Ink, used for the expandable checklist drawer panel only.
Cream — Page BG #fefaf6 Background Warm off-white, primary light background.
White — Card Surface #ffffff Background Cards, modals, form inputs.

Type Scale

New floor, effective 2026-07-24: body copy can never be smaller than 18px. Eyebrows/labels can never be smaller than 16px. Inter is now the default body typeface (was Source Sans 3 — see Section 06 item 05 on whether nav/UI also moves to Inter or keeps Source Sans 3). H1 treatment still has two live options below; see Section 06 item 02.

H1 — Inter optionNot selected
Considered, not used — H1 stays the page's single serif statement; section H2s moved to Inter specifically to keep that distinction, not to replace it.

Section Heading

SubheadingInter 600
22px minimum — new floor, 2026-07-24
lh 1.4 · color: #2c1810

A subheading sits between a section title and body copy — never smaller than 22px.

BodyInter 400
18px minimum — enforced, not a suggestion
lh 1.7 · color: #2c1810

Body copy at 18px minimum on light backgrounds, dark ink color. Never smaller, never opacity-faded, never grey.

SupportInter 400
18px · lh 1.6
color: #5c4a42
Raised from 16px — see Section 06 item 06

Supporting copy — captions, secondary labels, timestamps. Raised to 18px to match the new body floor; flagged in Section 06 in case a distinct smaller caption tier is still wanted at exactly 16px (the eyebrow/label floor) instead.

Long QuoteLora Italic 400

CONFIRMED — sole italic exception

This is the only place italic has ever been deliberately verified for readability on this project — confirm it still stands under the new "no hard-to-read italics" rule.

03 — Contrast

Verified Ratios

AA floor (4.5:1 body / 3:1 large text), AAA preferred (7:1). Every row below is a direct recalculation, dated 2026-07-24.

Updated this pass: the Dark Olive body-text row now reads #FAF1E3, not the earlier #f4e8d8 — replaced site-wide across Zones 2-4 after the old color was flagged as reading "muted" despite passing AAA. Contrast improved (14.5 → 15.65) as a side effect, not the reason for the change — legibility math and visual "pop" are different properties, and this swap was about the latter.

Hard Rules

Enforced on every page, no exceptions. New rules from the 2026-07-24 update are marked.

Body copy never below 18px.Raised from 16px. Applies to every paragraph of running text, no exceptions.
Subheadings never below 22px.Anything sitting between a section title and body copy — a lede, an intro line, a card subhead — is 22px minimum, not body size.
Eyebrows/labels never below 16px.Captions, badges, meta text — all included.
No hard-to-read italics. The only standing exception is the verified Lora long-quote treatment — confirm in Section 06 whether that exception still holds.
Inter is the default body font.Every new body-copy element uses Inter unless explicitly told otherwise.
No opacity-faded text on dark backgrounds.Use a verified solid hex value from Section 01/03 instead — never rgba text-color fades.
No default/generic grey text.Every text color comes from the verified palette in Section 01 — Ink Support (#5c4a42), never a UI-framework grey or an unverified hex picked for looking "muted."
No bare selectors.Scope every rule — no bare ul, li, a, h1–h3.
44px minimum touch targets.Buttons, links, form controls — always.
Focus rings always visible.3px CDP orange, explicitly set — never rely on browser default.
Never skip heading levels.H1 → H2 → H3, in order, every time.
Self-scan before presenting — every linked file, not just the main one.Contrast recalculated, font sizes checked, ARIA roles and keyboard operability verified, before anything is shown. This explicitly includes custom headers, covers, or any separate module referenced by a page — "scanned the style guide" means every file that makes it up, not just the one being actively edited.
06 — Open Items

Pending Decisions

Being closed out directly with Cara as of v2.1 — see chat for the live discussion. Items 01 (dark background), 02 (H1 typeface), 03 (Lora-italic exception), and 04 (orange token system) are now resolved and moved into the confirmed spec above; they no longer appear in the list below.

05

Does Inter replace Source Sans 3 for nav/UI too, or just body copy?

The previous guide locked Source Sans 3 for "body, nav, and UI everywhere" as one bundled decision. Recent zone builds already use Inter for interactive UI text (evidence-reveal buttons, checklist links), not just running body copy — confirm whether that extends formally to nav links and buttons sitewide.

06

Support/caption text: 18px like body, or its own smaller tier?

Support text was raised to 18px in Section 02 to match the new body floor. Confirm that's actually wanted, versus keeping a distinct, smaller caption/meta tier fixed at exactly 16px (the eyebrow/label floor) so body and captions stay visually distinguishable.
